Southampton EngD researcher wins ICE Award

Southampton University EngD student Frederick Levy (supervised by Dave Richards and William Powrie, Infrastructure Group, in the Transport and Environment IDC) has been awarded the Institution of Civil Engineers' Cooling Prize.

The Cooling Prize is designed to encourage young engineers to write their first paper and attracted record entries this year.

Frederick's winning paper was entitled "The uplift capacity of transmission tower foundations" and he received a cheque for £200, a free place at the International Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference in Paris and a cut glass decanter. The decanter will be presented to Frederick at the British Geotechnical Association's Annual Conference, where Frederick will also get the opportunity to present his paper to the wider BGA membership.
