(10 September 2014) - Southampton University EngD student Anthony Velazquez received the Best Paper Award in the Logistics Research Network Conference 2014 from the Chartered Institute Logistics and Transport (CILT).

Southampton University research engineer, Anthony Velazquez, studying in the Transport and the Environment industrial doctorate centre, received the Best Paper Award in the Logistics Research Network Conference 2014 from the Chartered Institute Logistics and Transport (CILT).

He said:

I am truly honoured to have received the Best Paper Award. It is always rewarding and exciting when our research is recognised by our peers.

The LRN Conference is one of the main European forums for the presentation of research results, current practice and new ideas in supply chain management, logistics and transport. Papers are invited from academics, researchers and practitioners working in the field of logistics, transportation and supply chain management.

Anthony’s research focusses on the development of a decision-making framework for the reduction of logistics costs and carbon emissions through the optimal combination of low carbon technologies in heavy goods vehicles. The application of a multiple approach combining engineering, finance and operations research principles and waste management and environmental practices have granted him academic and industrial recognition.

His research is sponsored by the EPSRC, the University of Southampton and Martin-Brower UK Ltd, a leading logistics service provider for restaurant chains around the world that values flexibility, innovation and embraces continuous improvement.
